Missing the Summer

The winter seems to drag on forever in upstate New York, and I can't help but to think of how much I miss the sun get a little disappointed.  Obviously it's been fun so far, I have friends up here and we've managed to keep busy during these cold months.  But summer means all kinds of wonderful things.  Sandals, beaches, no tights, green grass, warm weather, travelling, and most importantly: SUN!!  I'm already excited for summer, and I just can't wait for spring. I hope for many fun adventures THIS summer, though it may be months away!!  That being said, here's a look back at summer 2012 and the things I'm looking forward to most.

Fields & Rivers, Late Afternoon

The same weekend of Birthmas, Juliette and I went to a field and river in her town.  The river was calming, and the water was warm.  I had fun running through the field of dandelions, and wading in the water.  The way my dress fanned out around me as I stood in the water was amazing, though I did keep thinking that fish or plants were touching my legs.  The colors were beautiful in the late afternoon, and the mountains in the background were gorgeous.

Juliette wore a shirt she made herself, a dark red high-low skirt, taupe wedges, an assortment of bracelets, and in her hair, feathers.  I wore a taupe maxi dress, turquoise sandals, and feathers in my hair as well.

Birthmas 2012

A while back, Juliette and I did our yearly Birthmas celebration.  Birthmas is a combination of our birthdays and Christmas.  We celebrate Birthmas because we live 5 hours apart and don't get to see each other on our birthdays (or Christmas).  We did what we usually do for the celebration: made cupcakes from scratch (the frosting was from scratch too!), had a photo shoot, and a picnic.  As always, we celebrated in Maine at Juliette's house.

Juliette wore a lace shirt and a denim skirt. I wore a floral headband, denim top, and lace skirt.

The Quarry

Well, I never knew about this place until my friend showed it to me.  The first time I went here was on a very cold day with my friend Zach.  But over the summer, I went back with Juliette when it was not freezing out.  There's a stone bridge out there, by a quarry.  It's nice to go to when it's not cold.

I learned a few things that day: 1. Sometimes you have to get in very strange positions to get a good shot (we're talking standing on rocks, leaning forward, and risking falling into the river). 2. Get over your fears if you want to be good at what you want to do.  I almost slipped down the hills into spiderwebs many times.

I have a love of high-low skirts, and immediately wanted to steal Juliette's skirt.  I looked a bit Snow White-esque, but I don't mind it.  Sometimes it's fun to imagine living the life a character in a book has.
